The urban design of Eindhoven Airport has been completed since 2013. The idea is very simple; a urban space which courage you to linger however create enough room for rushing passenger.
The 1 by 2 meter concrete tiles has been covering the most of area. The greenery has been integrated to design by only creating free space via taking tiles out. There has been a choice to use the long grass as an landscape element to break the all horizontal flat surface of concrete.
Additionally, blue and green glass has been add to the concrete before the cut. Therefore, if one looks closely sees the outline of passing route is blue which the lingering space has green glass in the tiles. Base on regulation, an outdoor smoking room is added. It is as transparent as it can be with green room.
The design has been made during my internship with Helmond|Zuidam Architecten.
